SOLARCRETE ENERGY EFFICIENT BUILDING SYSTEMS, INC.
About Us
Our walls are one foot thick, 8" EPA foam (R-40) with 2" reinforced shotcrete inside and out. Outside is finished in a stucco, brick texture, stone, etc. Interior can be painted or drywall directly glued to inside wall. All electrical conduit, etc., is in wall before shotcrete. Walls start at footing (including basement walls), to roof. Roof should be insulated to R-50.
We do shop drawings off your architectural drawings or can set you up with an architect!

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF SOLARCRETE STANDARD AND FIRE-RATED WALL SYSTEM
|
The Solarcrete Standard and Fire-Rated Wall systems consist of a
reinforced concrete insulated sandwich panel. An expanded
polystyrene insulation board core is sandwiched between shotcrete
faces, which are interconnected with patented ties. Solarcrete walls
provide a choice of insulation thickness, varying from 4, 6, or 7 1/4
inches, sandwiched between 2 3/8 inch thick faces of concrete. All
Solarcrete walls are load bearing. Wall Specifications, Code
Approvals, and Engineering Data can be provided upon request.
Following is a brief summary of the different advantages found in
Solarcrete Wall Systems.
Super Insulating Ability
Solarcrete provides superior insulating values varying from R-20 with 4
inches of insulation to R-35+ with 7-1/4 inches of insulation. The
patented process permits the polystyrene insulation boards to meet
flush creating a virtually sealed picnic chest, which is encased in two
layers of concrete to minimize infiltration. The interior mass of the
concrete aids in stabilizing the inside building environment. The
composit assembly is excellent for severe climates as it creates a
massive wall, which provides the desirable thermal time lag. The
high-energy efficiency of Solarcrete permits smaller sized heating and
cooling equipment
Load-Bearing Capacity
Solarcrete provides impressive design loading capabilities. The
reinforced concrete panels provide structural strength enabling it to
support any customary roof, floor and/or wind loads and conforms to
the Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete (ACI
318-77). The Solarcrete wall provides a seismic rating of "3", higher
than that required in earthquake-prone areas, making the wall an
ideal choice for all types of severe applications.
Fire Resistance
Solarcrete carries a fully tested (ASTM E119-79) and approved two-
(2) hour fire rating from the Building Research Laboratory at the
Ohio State University. This qualifies the wall assembly and
Solarcrete buildings for lower insurance ratings.
Low Maintenance
The reinforced concrete system develops excellent impact
strength. Solarcrete enables a wide variety of permanent finishes
requiring very low maintenance and even eliminates caulking
between panels. Solarcrete is also resistant to moisture, mold,
rot, vermin, termites and vandalism.
Reduced Noise Pollution
The composite assembly carries an estimated sound
transmission rating of 61, which is considered excellent in the
industry, compared to an average rating of 40 for conventional
construction
Major Building Code Approvals
The Solarcrete System has been evaluated by all three of the
major model building code organizations, which have issued the
following reports:
- B.O.C.A. - Research Report No. 91-5
- I.C.B.O. - Report No. 3585
- S.B.C.C.I. - Compliance Report No. 8130
Life Cycle Cost Effectiveness
Solarcrete has an initial or front-end cost, which is competitive
with most other building system. However, Solarcrete was
developed on the basis of Value Engineering with Life Cycle
Costing in mind. During the life of the building, costs are
much lower due to energy savings, and reduced insurance
rates and maintenance work.
Design Flexibility
Solarcrete permits unique design freedom due to the
construction process and the building materials utilized. The
ploystyrene insulation board, which is supported by a patented
wall truss assembly, acts as the form board for the shotcreting
operation. The insulation can be cut and formed, and the
concrete gunned in unique design applications such as
structural arches, battererd, curved and serpentine walls and
variety of other design possibilities normally cost prohibitive
with other building systems.
Time and Cost Saving Techniques
Solarcrete uses small crews with lightweight building materials
and fast concrete gunning techniques. Panels can be
site-built or pre-assembled and hauled to the site. This latter
process can significantly reduce construction time and costs.
Use of Readily Available Building Materials
Solarcrete uses three basic materials to form an integrated
whole. Expanded polystyrene "EPS" insulation board
(normally 7-1/4") is the heart of the system. It is supported
by a patented assembly of reinforcing bars and ties, which
allows the insulation to meet flush. Concrete is sprayed
(shotcrete) on both sides of the insulation forming a
structural, load-baring member. Use of readily available
materials reduces time delays and shipping costs.
Compatibility with Solar and BTU Management Systems
Solarcrete lends itself ideally to a multitude of active and
passive solar and other energy applications. The internal
concrete mass of Solarcrete provides an excellent storage
medium for heat from internal loads or from passive solar
gain during the heating season. This energy is stored and
re-radiated passively to assist in providing a stable internal
environment. Solarcrete has been used successfully in
passive designs with greenhouses, south facing windows and
Trombe walls. Hybrid systems utilizing air-to-air heat
pumps and water source heat pumps have also been
employed very successfully. During the cooling seasons, the
latent temperature of the earth (55 degrees F +/-_ and the
internal Wyth of the concrete serve to absorb the internal
heat gains. The walls also prevent any significant external
heat gains.
